A Christmas Story

Twas the month before Christmas and all through the house, N ot a creature was stirring not even a mouse. Too good to be true I went around and around Looking for my children who were no where to be found.   When what to my wondering eyes should appear Were two little shadows in the closet I fear I opened the door and to my dismay I saw two little bodies in the middle of play They found all the presents wrapped up so tight Lil Ashton and Aydin didn't put up a fight The look on their faces were happy as can be With wrapping paper in each hand looking up at me Now Aydin now Ashton what were you thinking Come on Tony Leonard why were you sleeping They got to the toys, they got to them all Now off to bed off to bed off to bed you all At first I cried, I couldn't believe Then I laughed at lil Aydin, he was only being three Ashton doesn't know better he's not even two But Tony Bologna, he knew better he knew   So I re-wrapped the presents and chuckled ...

For My Boys

You don’t call me mom, but I don’t care I’ll read you bedtime stories with your favorite teddy bear I’ll tuck you in and turn off the lights And say I love you even if there was a fight ... You don’t call me mom, but I love you the same I’ll call the doctor when you are in pain I’ll bandage you cuts and bruises too Whatever you need no matter the mood You don’t call me mom, yet you brighten my day You make me so mad with something smart to say You leave your clothes all over the floor I have to remind you to brush your teeth once more You don’t call me mom, but its okay I’ll still take you to practice every day I’ll cheer you on at your sporting events And brag on you with the other parents You don’t call me mom, but I’ll always be there To tell you you’re wrong, even though you don’t care I’ll yell and scream and discipline you too Those teenage years I know they’re hard on you You don’t call me mom, yet you make me cry Like the day I give you the keys to dr...

Spring Time

Ok so where do I start?  Ahhhh yes, Spring Break.  My kids were on spring break so of course we took them on vacation.  Williamsburg, VA.  Busch Gardens was great.  Austin rode a tone of coasters.  Aydin went on his first log flume, and Alec started a "map in hand while going down roller coasters" tradition.  The boys had a blast.  Ashton is now cutting his top teeth which must be another tradition, because he cut his bottom two in Williamsburg in January.  My parents joined us for Easter and a couple of days in Colonial Williamsburg.  A day shopping at the outlets topped off the trip before we head home to good ole North Carolina.  All the boys were there except the oldest who has turned 18 and feels he has earned some right of passage to adulthood, blocked me on facebook because "its all my fault," and who has forgotten all about his family.  Sad...yes, tired of his games...more than you know.  This I could say is where ...

When The Cats Away The Mice Shall Play

Growing up I loved it when my mom would go out for a couple of hours and leave us with dad.  That meant junk for dinner, unlimited TV, and bed time was as mom was pulling in the driveway.  You know how dad's are.  They "wear the pants" but its mom who buys, washes, and irons those pants.  She is the one who keeps everyone in line.  Now that I'm the mom, my childhood comes back and haunts me almost daily. Tonight I went with my friend's daughter to her pageant contest practice.  I was only gone for 2 hours.  The boys know the drill.  Take showers, tidy up, homework, stuff like that.  But ooooooo noooooo, when mom got home, bedroom trashed, children not showered, dishwasher still loaded with clean dishes...a mom's welcome home right?  But there was this beautiful aroma this time.  One that I wasn't familiar with.  ahhh yes, the smell of dinner being prepared.  My dear husband was making dinner.  So while I'm anno...
